Sadly, well meaning but ill-informed environmentalists continue to dump trash in our oceans hoping for miracles.

Rudimentary methods traditionally used for “fishery habitat restoration” are often misleadingly passed off as being applicable to “coral reef restoration”

All too often, through cajoled efforts, tons of purpose-built or waste concrete and steel are dumped into the ocean with the hope of it magically transform itself into a beautiful coral reef.

Sadly the outcome is almost always disappointing at best.

As admirable as they may be, coral restoration efforts employing outdated methods simply do not work in today’s environment.

All marine environments are under constant bombardment by anthropogenic stresses, which are steadily increasing on a global scale and thus require that we modernize our methodology and switch to state of the art active restoration systems such as Biorock before our coral reefs degrade to an irrecoverable state.
