Bonaire Underwater in 1970--1980

In Bonaire, in the Netherland Antilles, coral used to be so abundant that diving from the shore was often problematic. It was difficult to get past the massive coral growths that came right up to the shore. This is no longer a problem. Close to shore coral growths, in areas like Nukove and Karpata, have been totally destroyed; only rubble remains.   Photographs by Jeff Houdret
