 Our Philippines tidal energy powered coral reef and fisheries restoration project, FirstStepCoral , with Antonio Cueva, Illac Diaz, Tom Goreau, Ed Kurth, Gerardo La O, Neil Ruiz, Rhoderick Samonte, and Daniel Walker, has just won a top prize at the MIT IDEAS Competition this evening (May 4, 2006)

 The MIT IDEAS Competition, a joint project of the Edgerton Center and MIT Public Services Center, stands for Innovation, Development, Enterprise, Action, Service, and is MIT's top award for socially-responsible engineering projects. It is supported by Boeing, Ford, Lemelson-MIT program, Hewlett-Packard, The Baruch Family Foundation, Bose, MIT Graduate Students Office, and the Silicon Spice Founders Fund. The top prize of $7,500 usually receives matching grants of larger amounts.

 We are delighted that this award will finally allow us to combine the Gorlov Helical Tutbine with Biorock Technology, and start coral reef and fisheries restoration projects in the Philippines.
