To all readers of the Global Coral Reef Alliance web site

Please watch this urgent video of irresponsible and unnecessary destruction of Majuro reefs and sign the petition to stop it.

This activity would be criminal in a rational world!

In fact it is a clear violation of the Coral Reef Protection Executive Order which clearly states that no US agency should engage in activities that destroy corals, and which applies to the Marshall Islands. But all these agencies responsible for enforcing it are choosing to look the other way, and therefore they are complicit in the destruction.

I have dived and filmed reefs around Majuro since 1997, and my father and grandfather worked on Marshall Island reefs in the mid 1940s.

There is very little good reef left in Majuro, and what they are destroying is the best there is on the atoll.

It is especially insane to be destroying the only shore protection to create unprotected landfill inches above the high tide mark, and below it in exceptional high tide and storm surge or tsunami events. ;

There is a vast amount of sand in deeper water in the lagoon that could easily be suction pumped up for landfill without harming the reef.

In this case the richest people in the Marshall Islands are destroying the future for everybody else who lives there.

Dean Jacobson is a real hero for fighting this fight, but nobody dares to support him because of the power of those people profiting from this insane project.
